Pastor Jim Martin

Jim Martin is the pastor of Creekside Community Church.

Previously he served as the Associate Pastor for Missions at the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Lake Jackson, Texas, for 13 years.  He still serves the Lighthouse as an Elder. He was ordained as a Deacon in January, 1979 at First Baptist Church of Lake Jackson, and ordained to the Gospel Ministry in July, 2002, again by FBCLJ.

He serves as a liaison for the Lighthouse and for Creekside with the Gulf Coast Baptist Association as well as serving as a chaplain to the Brazosport Regional Healthcare Center and to local businesses and industries.  His passion is seeing people’s lives transformed through a growing, intimate, personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Jim was born and grew up in Dallas, Texas, and became a follower of Jesus Christ as a boy.  He was baptized at Lakewood Baptist Church in Dallas at age nine. He studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin and Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.  Jim served in the U. S. Army during the Viet Nam conflict, serving in southern Germany.

He met Brenda Tomlinson at Tyler Junior College and they married in 1967.  God blessed Jim and Brenda with two beautiful daughters, Jennifer Monical of Lake Jackson and Heather Lampard of Houston, Texas.  Both are serving the Lord in their respective churches and communities.  God has also given them ten grandchildren!  Jim’s favorite Scripture in this regard is Isaiah 59:21.

Jim worked for the Dow Chemical Company in Freeport for 31 years, in the field of chemical process research and development, advanced process control, and process optimization.  He retired from Dow in the spring of 2003 to concentrate on missions and ministry.  He has taught, ministered, and preached in Africa, Eastern Europe, Mexico, and England, where he has served as interim pastor of two English Baptist churches.

His “Life Verse” is Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live, yet not I, but Christ lives in me, and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”
